We are excited to welcome Jim Smith back to Byrd's Books to discuss his new book, Our Dog Yogi With Other Stories True and Mostly True on Wednesday May 3rd at 7pm. To save a spot register HERE (suggested, due to space).
About the book:
Grit, love, imagination, the challenges and pleasures of friendship and the depths of family lore infuse the short stories in this collection. Family, friends and baseball, the cool deep waters of Canandaigua Lake, and the deep-rooted pull of Ireland exhibit the choices we make in life, or maybe are made for us.
About the author:
Our Dog Yogi With Other Stories, True and Mostly True, is James Herbert Smith’s seventh book. A lifelong journalist, he has worked as a reporter and editor at the Hartford Courant, and has led the Connecticut Post, The Day of New London, The News-Times of Danbury, the Record-Journal of Meriden, The New Britain Herald and The Bristol Press to New England Newspaper of the Year Awards. He was inducted into the New England Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2012.
He won the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ Distinguished Writing Award for a selection of columns on the First Amendment, which were published in "Best Newspaper Writing 2003” put out annually by the Poynter Institute.
He earned his master’s degree in humanities/writing from Wesleyan University, studied at Syracuse University Graduate School of Journalism and earned a B.A. in American History from SUNY Brockport.
He lives with his wife, Jacqueline Smith, also an award-winning journalist, in Bethel.
