A quote from Sacred Heart University where he is a professor: Rick Magee, a native Californian, received his B.A. in English from the University of California at Berkeley, and his M.A. from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He moved to New York to continue his graduate studies, and received his Ph.D. from Fordham University in 2002 for his dissertation “Sentimental Ecology: Susan Fenimore Cooper and a New Model of Ecocriticism.” He joined the Sacred Heart Faculty in 2003. LESLIE BULION'S eight award-winning illustrated poetry collections invite readers on multi-layered nature adventures. These include Spi-Ku: A Clutter of Short Verse on Eight Legs, Amphibian Acrobats, Superlative Birds, Leaf Litter Critters, and Hey There, Stink Bug. Leslie’s graduate science background and her years as a school social worker inform both her poetry and her science-infused novels for young readers. About her newest book, Serengeti: Plains of Grass, her publisher says " Leslie Bulion, a virtuoso science poet, has created a portrait of the rainy season on East Africa’s southern Serengeti Plain, offering young readers a compelling look at an ecosystem in motion. Using a series of interconnected verses inspired by an East African Swahili poem form—the utendi—Bulion’s cadences and rhythmic lines mimic the web of life in the Serengeti, following the great migration of wildebeest, zebras, and others into and then out of the vast short-grass plain.
